Graduate Courses
The faculty has approval to offer the following courses listed in the graduate catalog for academic years 2019–2020 and 2020–2021; however, not all courses are taught each year. Students should consult the Course Schedule to determine which courses and topics will be offered during a particular semester or summer session. The Course Schedule may also reflect changes made to the course inventory after the publication of this catalog. Students currently in our program matriculating under a different catalog, please contact the Graduate Advisor with any questions you may have about your program of work.MSSLHS Curriculum
The Master of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is offered with a thesis or no-thesis option.
All MSSLHS students seeking certification take a set of required courses that ensure competencies in a wide variety of professional areas, as required for the current Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology standards for certification. A total of 57-60 credit hours over five semesters is required for the completion of the MSSLHS. Additional hours may be required by the program in order to meet ASHA guidelines.
Students may also choose from a set of electives based upon their specific interests.
Thesis Specialization
The MSSLHS without thesis: Students selecting this option must complete the required coursework (57 to 60 credit hours) outlined in the table below. Note that of the at least 6 semester credit hours of electives, 3 must be in the area of research design and statistics.
The MSSLHS with thesis: Students selecting this option must complete the required coursework (57 to 60 credit hours) outlined in the table below. Given their enrollment in thesis, they will have met the research requirement for the 3 of the 6 credit hours noted in the guideline above for the MSSLHS without thesis. Students interested in a PhD program are encouraged to consider the thesis specialization.
