AAC CO-PILOT
Help Your Child Communicate with Confidence—Join AAC CO-PILOT!
Do you have a child with autism or suspected autism who has difficulty communicating? You're not alone and you don't have to navigate this journey by yourself.
AAC CO-PILOT (Coaching Parents in Implementing Language Options & Tools) is a free, 6-week parent coaching program offered through the University of Texas Speech, Language, and Hearing Center. Thanks to funding from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, eligible Texas families can participate at no cost.
This program empowers parents and caregivers with practical, evidence-based strategies to support their child's communication during everyday routines like meals, playtime, bath time, and bedtime. Whether your child uses gestures, signs, pictures, a speech-generating device, spoken words—or is just beginning to communicate—we'll help you recognize and build on every communication attempt.
Over six weeks, you'll learn how to:
- Better understand your child's communication
- Create natural opportunities for communication throughout the day
- Model and support AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)
- Build your child's independence and confidence
- Make communication a meaningful part of everyday family life
You'll receive individualized coaching from graduate student speech-language clinicians under expert supervision, along with ongoing guidance and resources to support your family's success.
Who can participate?
Families of children with autism or suspected autism who could benefit from additional communication support. Sessions are available in person or virtually.
Cost: Free for eligible families.
Together, we can help your child find more ways to connect with the people who matter most.
