Swallowing pressure and x-ray research in Multiple Sclerosis: Adults needed

The Department of Neurology at Dell Medical School is conducting a research study investigating how Multiple Sclerosis impacts swallowing by pressures generated in your throat. This study involves placement of a thin pressure-sensing tube in your nose and throat and an xray video while you swallow different foods and liquids (e.g., sips of water, bites of pudding). You may qualify for this study if you do not have MS or if you do not have any difficulty swallowing.

We are looking for adults 18 - 100 who:

  • Are healthy with no diagnosis of swallowing, gastrointestinal, respiratory, or neurologic disorders and with no history of head or neck surgery
  • *OR*
  • Have a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis

Total participation at Dell Medical School (1701 Trinity St.) takes up to 90 minutes, and you will be paid $50 per hour for your time.

Swallowing research in Parkinson’s Disease: Adults needed

The Department of Neurology at Dell Medical School is conducting a research study investigating how Parkinson’s disease impacts swallowing function over time. This study involves 3 visits over the course of 18 months. Each visit lasts about 2 hours and consists of swallowing studies that involve placement of a thin pressure-sensing tube in your nose and throat, an x-ray video while you swallow different foods and liquids (e.g., sips of water, bites of pudding), breathing measurements, tongue pressure measurements, and muscle activity measurements. You may qualify for this study if you do not have Parkinson’s disease or if you do not have any difficulty swallowing.

We are looking for adults 18 – 100 who:

  • Are healthy with no diagnosis of swallowing, gastrointestinal, respiratory, or neurologic disorders and with no history of head or neck surgery
