Director
Corinne Jones, PhD, CCC-SLP
Corinne Jones is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences in Moody College of Communication and Neurology at Dell Medical School. She is also a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist with UT Health Austin.
Dr. Jones received a joint doctorate in neuroscience and communication sciences and disorders from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she investigated changes to swallowing function in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. She completed her clinical training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, with a specialized focus on evaluation and treatment of dysphagia.
Lab Staff
Imran Kalhoro, BS
Imran Kalhoro is a biomechanical engineer who leads research hardware development for the Physiological Laboratories of the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences, including the Swallow Modulation Lab
Christina Mihova, MS
Christina is the project manager for the Physiological Laboratories of the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences, including the Swallow Modulation Lab.
Current PhD Students
Jilliane Lagus, MS, CCC-SLP
Jilliane Lagus is a PhD student in the Department of Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences. She is interested in capturing the aging swallow across quantitative and qualitative domains. Her goals are to advocate for the aging population, build quantitative and logical analytical skills for research productivity, become a trained research scientist.
Ally Richardson, BA, BS
Ally is a PhD candidate in the Odin Institute, under the primary mentorship of Dr. David Paydarfar. Ally is helping the Swallow Modulation Lab with projects involving novel applications of machine learning to swallowing data.
Current Medical Students
Christian Shannon
Christian is a medical student in Dell Medical School, with an interest in otolaryngology. He is assistant with a scoping review on dysphagia in Parkinson's disease.
Current Master's Students
David Zhang, BS
David Zhang is a Master's student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering under the primary mentorship of Dr. Wei Li. David is working with the Swallow Modulation Lab to develop and test a non-invasive wearable sensor to quantify swallowing behaviors.
Current Undergraduate Research Assistants
Emily Rangel
Emily Rangel is an undergraduate in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She is passionate about advocacy and contributing to research and treatment to transform the lives of individuals with dysphagia across the lifespan. She plans to attend graduate school to become a speech-language pathologist, and hopes to eventually work in a medical setting. Emily is also a part of the Stuttering and Linguistic Processing Lab.
Angela Kurian
Angela Kurian is an undergraduate in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She is interested in cognitive neuroscience, audiovisual perception, sensory processing, and neurogenic disorders in communication/swallowing. Her goals are to attend either graduate school to obtain an MS in speech-language pathology or optometry school to obtain an OD and to be a clinician.
Alexandra Rogers
Alexandra is an undergraduate in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She is interested in swallowing, cognition, traumatic brain injury, and pediatrics. Her goals are to attend graduate school for a Master's degree in speech-language pathology, work in a hospital setting with the pediatric population, advocate for patients with communication and swallowing needs, and to learn more about the clinical and personal effects of traumatic brain injury.
Mansi Patel
Mansi is an undergraduate in the Department of Neuroscience. She is interested in cancer, data science, swallowing, and neurological disorders. Her goals are to advocate for equal treatment opportunities and health care service and to serve as a trained researcher.
